Contractor / Business Listing Agreement

Last updated August 2026

This agreement is between Slatejack and the independent trade business that lists on the platform. Accepting it is a condition of appearing in the directory.

1. Independent contractor status

You are an independent business. This agreement is between you and Slatejack LLC. Nothing here creates an employment, partnership, joint venture, franchise or agency relationship. Slatejack LLC does not control how, when or by whom your work is performed, does not supply tools or materials, does not set your prices, and does not supervise or inspect your work.

Slatejack LLC is not a party to any contract for work between you and a client. Any claim by a client about the work, its price, quality, safety or timing must be resolved between you and the client. You agree not to direct any such claim against Slatejack LLC except to the extent required by law.

2. Licence and insurance representations

By listing on Slatejack you represent and warrant that you hold an active contractor licence appropriate to your trade and general liability insurance, and that your business contact information is accurate. Your listing goes live immediately based on this representation.

You may optionally submit your licence and insurance details for review to earn a verified badge. You authorise Slatejack to verify submitted details with the issuing licensing board and your insurer, and to display your licence number publicly on your listing.

If a licence or policy lapses, expires or is revoked you must notify Slatejack within three business days. Slatejack may suspend or remove your listing at any time, including for false representations.

3. Published rates are binding

You must publish a rate card. For any job booked through Slatejack, the rates on your rate card at the moment of booking are binding on you. That snapshot is stored with the booking and cannot be edited by either party.

You may charge more than the snapshot only when the client gives written approval, obtained before the additional work is performed, describing the extra work and its price. Verbal approval is not sufficient.

Rate card changes take effect for future bookings only.

4. Payment flows directly to you

Slatejack does not collect, hold, escrow, split or refund job payment. The client pays you directly by whatever method you accept, and you invoice, collect and are solely responsible for your own taxes on that income.

The only money that moves between us is the monthly membership fee you pay Slatejack for your listing.

5. Membership fee

Your selected plan is billed monthly in advance to the payment method on file and renews automatically until cancelled. Cancellation and refund terms are in the Refund & Cancellation Policy. Non-payment pauses your listing.

6. Your obligations on bookings

Respond to booking requests promptly and accept or decline within two business days. Show up as scheduled or notify the client. Perform work in a professional manner and in compliance with California law, the Contractors State License Law and local permitting requirements. Provide a written invoice on completion that maps to your published rates.

7. Overcharge reports and enforcement

Clients may report an invoice that exceeds the booking snapshot. You agree to respond to a report within five business days and to provide the invoice and any written change approval. Slatejack may, at its discretion, warn, downrank, suspend or permanently remove a listing for confirmed overcharging, and may keep a record of the outcome in the platform audit log.

8. Insurance and indemnity

You must maintain general liability insurance appropriate to your trade, and workers' compensation where required by law. You will indemnify, defend and hold harmless Slatejack from any claim, damage, loss, penalty or cost arising from your work, your invoicing, your employees or subcontractors, or your failure to hold required licences or insurance.

9. Content and reviews

You grant Slatejack a non-exclusive licence to display your business name, logo, description, rates, licence number and photos in the directory and in marketing. You may not solicit, incentivise or retaliate against reviews.

10. Term and termination

Either party may terminate with 30 days' notice. Slatejack may suspend or terminate immediately for a lapsed licence or policy, confirmed overcharging, fraud, safety issues, or any breach of this agreement. Sections 4, 7, 8 and 11 survive termination.

11. Governing law

This agreement is governed by the laws of the State of California. Disputes are resolved in the state or federal courts located in California.
